Thankful for Travel

What’s one piece of travel advice you always follow?

I have a set of rules that cater to us as a neurodivergent family. They probably aren’t necessary for those who aren’t dealing with elopers, individuals with ARFID, sensory seekers and avoiders, etc., so I’ll just share a personal reminder I have for myself whenever I’m faced with the chance to travel.

This isn’t a travel hack or practical tip, just a general life philosophy that also applies to travel.

To optimize enjoyment of your trip, you need a grateful mindset. If you realize that travel’s a privilege, you’ll see it as a valuable opportunity not to waste.

You’ll be more enthusiastic about the experience, more open to trying new and strange things, and more willing to step out of your comfort zone.

You’ll also be less inclined to complain about minor setbacks. No sweating the small stuff. You’ll be more chill, not at all insufferable with the belief that life owes you. That’s why this is a good attitude to adopt for life in general.

You become a better person with a thankful heart, happier in your blessings, and just generally more personable.

However, gratitude doesn’t come naturally for many of us, so getting to this mindset may require exercise to actively turn thankfulness into a habit. I’ve found that keeping a gratitude journal really does help, so I’m sharing this questionnaire that can be answered daily to encourage conscious acknowledgment of blessings and focus on the positive.

You can download it to print or use it as inspiration to create your own gratitude journal.

That’s it for now! Blessings!
