Fictional Characters’ Shoes to Step into

Daily writing prompt
If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?

There’s a plethora of book or film characters I can relate to and quite a few I’d like to be if given the choice. I could probably go on and on about this topic, but I think I’ll limit it to a manageable number.

Kathleen Kelly (film – You’ve Got Mail)

She was the first to come to mind. It really can’t be helped, considering the title of my blog. She was a romantic figure – lovely in every way, and a bookstore owner to boot. Everything in her life was cozy. Her shop was cozy. So was her home. So were her friendships. So were the New York seasons as they were presented in the film. She’s a character after my own heart.

Kinsey Millhone (book – Sue Grafton’s ABC Mysteries)

I’m actually nothing like Kinsey, but I somehow can still relate to her. She’s very much flawed, but I find her so cool – all independent, free to come and go as she pleases, solving crimes for a living. I think she has influenced me, attitude-wise, more than I might have noticed. Anyway, I started reading the Kinsey Millhone books in college and have always pictured myself growing up to be just like her. I’m almost two decades older than her character as she started out in the series, and I still wish this.

Amélie (film – Amélie)

I love this movie. I can do without the R stuff, of course, but I love Amélie’s imagination and creativity, as well as her desire to make things better for other people. I also wish I could pull off that hairstyle.

Jessica Fletcher (TV – Murder She Wrote)

Before all the cozy mysteries I read and watch now, there was Murder She Wrote. Of course I wouldn’t want a steady supply of murders to make things interesting, but I’ve always dug Jessica Fletcher’s life. She’s a bestselling mystery author who lives in a charming little town in Maine. It’s a great place to a busybody.

Nancy Drew (book – only the vintage yellow hardbacks)

Forever 18, forever taking on adventures I can only imagine for myself. Like Kinsey, Nancy is someone I’m still aspiring to be like when I grow up, even though she’s now younger than my own daughter.

Anne Shirley (book – the Anne of Green Gables series)

Anne’s life started out in bleak circumstances, but her positivity has always been a force to be reckoned with. She found her home and family, achieved much in terms of her education and career, and found her mostly happy ever after with Gilbert Blythe. Certainly, Anne is someone who knows how to romanticize life.

I’m sure I’ll later think of more characters that I should have included in the list and beat myself up over forgetting them, but for now these are the ones who immediately came to mind.

Money Talk

The Paypal buttons are too complicated for me, although they’re supposedly better than Paypal.me. Still, if you like my writing and would like to show your appreciation and support with money, you can click the “tip jar” I’ve added below the blog’s header image.

Or, you can scroll toward the bottom and check out the books I’ve published on Kindle. They’re another way you can support my writing, and they’re also available for free on Kindle Unlimited if you’re subscribed to that.

I’d be grateful for any show of support. Even likes and comments are very much appreciated. Have a great one!
