Triggered by the Topic of Groceries :D

List your top 5 grocery store items.

I said no political talk, but let me point out right away that our grocery expense jumped to double in the span of four years. It wasn’t just the pandemic; it was mainly Duterte’s TRAIN (Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion) Law. It was meant to target the rich, but ended up punishing the lower-income households the most.

And then he was succeeded by somebody without the know-how and competence to alleviate the condition of the national economy, the insight and empathy to understand the plight of the underprivileged, or the confidence and trust of foreign investors.

And that’s all I’m going to say about that. I have very strong political opinions, but choose not to air them here. I have Facebook for that. I prefer to be strictly cozy in this space.😇✌️

Having said that, let me point out that we divide our groceries between the supermarket and the public market. We usually buy the most important items like produce, meat, fish, eggs, and rice at the public market. We like to buy fresh since the market is so near (and much cheaper), but I tend to get canned and frozen from the supermarket too in case we can’t get to the market for some reason.

I get the rest of our groceries at the supermarket. From the supermarket, the top five items would be bread, milk, pasta, cereal, and cheese. When my baking supplies are low, they get priority too. I prefer to have the pantry well-stocked with flour and sugar for starters. I make sure there are also plenty of eggs and butter. With these on hand, I’m reassured that I can make something for my family even if we’re out of bread, pasta, or snacks.
