There are five people in my family: the parents and three neurodivergent kids – at least one of them has ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). My husband and I coincide in some of the things we like, but his guiding principle is to opt for home-cooked Filipino dishes, while my preference (and knowledge) is more international.
My daughter kind of echoes my taste in a more finicky way. She likes miso soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancit canton, filleted meat without yucky sauces, burger steak, French toast, and all kinds of desserts.
My first son is an unrepentant carnivore. He’s really an omnivore of course, but he really likes his red meat. He actually likes all kinds of meat and fish, also pasta, fries, rice… all kinds of carbs. He is thirteen, obviously a growing boy who will readily eat us out of house and home. It’s not really hard to feed him. The problem lies in his firm belief that all food is for him to devour.
My youngest boy is the pickiest of the lot. His list of acceptable food is pretty short, and he tends to be very suspicious of new food. He won’t eat bread, except for mamon. He eats eggs, fried chicken, potatoes, pasta, and rice. He indiscriminately consumes dairy. We go through cheese like it’s going out of style, and he eats 90% of our stock. He also drinks most of the milk and eats all of the yogurt if not stopped. He loves candy.
So, I’ve been trying to wrack my brain, but, no, there’s no coinciding when it comes to our favorite meals.
