As though reality was some kind of poison to our mind and soul, a harsh to our mellow…
I needed a booster (do antidotes have boosters?), or more accurately, I came across a booster. My daughter participated in a cosplay event on Saturday. All five of us went, plus my sister-and-law and niece, who are visiting from up North.
Since the venue was a mall a few cities away, it was my first time to go there. I didn’t get to explore, but there was a Chapters & Pages (used bookstore and stationery shop) near the activity hub (the mall was crawling with cosplayers though) that I was able to pretty much go through with a fine-tooth comb.
That C&P branch is quite the treasure trove. And the prices! Many of them, even hardbacks, were priced at PhP35 (USD.64). I filled a basket, but virtuously chose to edit it to demonstrate some restraint and self-control. I ended up only buying about 40%. I’m both proud of and mad at myself for it.
In any case, it’s still quite an impressive haul, especially since I didn’t set out to shop for books. But when the opportunity presents itself, I have to grab it or forever kick myself. Book lovers and hoarders collectors understand.
And don’t even bring up my TBR pile! Honestly, it’s pointless to bring it up. I HAD to, okay? It’s a compulsion. Is it a disease? Maybe, but it’s one I’m happy to live with, so let’s move on to the next topic. Which books did I get?
They’re all ones I’m already collecting. I’m growing my cozy mystery collection, especially the ones with cats. Frankly, I can’t imagine a cozy mystery without a cat figuring in it somehow. I’m still in the process of pinpointing which author has a style and mind I’m really cottoning to, but it should be any day now.
Series-wise, I got a Nancy Drew book from the original Grosset & Dunlap series and a Trixie Belden. As for the others, they’re all writers I love. For children’s/middle-grade/YA, I got two of Sharon Creech and two of Richard Peck (hardbacks!). Then I got Peter Mayle’s Encore Provence. It was like new too! Many of the books I got are!
I’m obviously over the moon! I was kind of wondering what I look like when I shop for books because I tend to be really expressive and talk to myself or the books. When I honed in on Encore Provence, I actually clapped my hands. I’ve been an oddball my whole life so I don’t care about looking weird. I’m just curious if other shoppers were cautiously backing away from the crazy lady who was animatedly in conversation with an invisible entity.
Here’s my Instagram reel of this haul.
Can you relate to any of this? Where do you like to thrift for books? And, hey, if you want connect on Instagram, follow me and then indicate so in the comments with your IG handle. Until the next haul!
