“Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life – well, valuable, but small – and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven’t been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn’t it be the other way around?” ~ Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan’s character in “You’ve Got Mail”)
Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a pleasant day. My name is Ivy, and I lead a pretty small life. If this phrase rings a bell, it’s because it’s borrowed. I have to confess to nicking it from the movie “You’ve Got Mail. Kathleen Kelly, the character Meg Ryan portrayed, muses about having a small life, and, from the get-go, that has really struck a chord with me.
I can only imagine living large, and the very though of it intimidates me. I do lead a small life, but, like most people who do, I like it. I have my family, my church, my friends, my cats, my plants, and my books. I already find my life quite full in this small and familiar cocoon.
At the same time, I’m not really brave either. I read. I write. I garden. I homemake and homeschool. I try to live slowly and intentionally. I’m an introvert, but I do talk too much about books. And, yes, real life tends to remind me of stuff I’ve read instead of the other way around. I don’t do anything spectacular, and I’m okay with that.
As a reading fiend, a hopeless book nerd who prefers to park herself in a reading nook instead of mingling, this is actually a display of courage for me. I’ve decided to start blogging about books and reading to share this passion with others, especially with those who belong to the race that knows Joseph. If you’ve been a lifelong bookworm, you likely know what that means and where the phrase comes from.
Small lives may not seem impressive, and yet, many books and movies are based on them, so why not blog about mine? My small life does have its charm, and it certainly brims with whimsy. If you’d like to see snippets of it, accompanied by my written fancies, you just might be the rare kindred spirit who will enjoy them.
I hope we can have some enjoyable exchanges about our hobby. I may not be the most sociable person out there, but I do enjoy hearing from people, so please comment. 🙂
That’s it for now. ¡Hasta la próxima!
